Job Description
If you like to keep things clean, safe and in an orderly condition, then this job is for you! The Utah Department of Corrections is looking for a full time Custodian I to provide upkeep to State building interiors in a prison facility environment.

Principle Duties
The Custodian will ensure that all areas are free of dirt and clutter.
  • Clean and wax floors
  • Clean walls
  • Clean bathrooms, ensuring all are sanitary and fully operational
  • Dusting, vacuuming, cleaning windows, mirrors, lockers and other items
  • Maintain assigned area in the facility in a clean, safe, and orderly condition
The ideal Candidate
The model candidate for this position is someone who:
  • Has custodian experience in a business environment
  • Experience with multiple cleaning agents, products and equipment
  • Can lift over 50 lbs
  • Has professional experience in housekeeping practices, techniques and procedures

Example of Duties:
  • Maintains building(s) and/or facilities in a clean and orderly condition and/or removes snow from sidewalks and doorways, etc.
  • Cleans and maintains floors, dusts, waxes and polishes furniture, washes windows, mirrors, and other glass or plastic items, empties trash and garbage, etc.
  • Cleans, sterilizes and or disinfects areas and/or equipment.
  • Sets up and arranges tables and chairs.
  • Repairs, cleans, adjusts and/or performs preventive maintenance on  equipment, tools, or machinery, etc.

 

 Typical Qualifications:
(includes knowledge, skills, and abilities required upon entry into position and trainable after entry into position)
  • use cleaning agents, products and equipment
  • follow written and/or oral instructions
  • maintain and/or repair tools and equipment

 

 Supplemental Information:
  • Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating machines, working with contagious diseases or hazardous chemicals, etc.
  • The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing, lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds, crouching or crawling in restricted areas, defending oneself and/or others against physical attack.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with custodial experience.
