Position #201800130


Supervises a caseload of probationers requiring minimum to maximum supervision through mandatory visual contacts, scheduled/unscheduled in the office and field to include days, nights, and occasional weekends and holidays. Monitors community restitution requirements, employment and job search activities and financial obligations. Administers drug and alcohol tests. Maintain verifiable case records in electronic and/or paper medium.   (60%)

Interviews probationers, families, collaterals, employers and victims; conducts investigations, reviews and evaluates defendant statement, criminal records, police reports, physical and mental health reports and prepares pre-sentence and dispositional reports. Evaluates criminal personalities, behaviors and rehabilitation potential.   (10%)

Utilizing the standardized assessment tool results develops a supervision level and individualized case plan on each probationer under purview Make referrals to and monitor education/treatment/counseling requirements. Participate in staffings to evaluate probationer's progress.   (15%)

Monitors probationer behavior and compliance with conditions of probation and when appropriate, increases or decreases supervision utilizing the results of standardized assessment tool; provides counseling to probationers. Utilize motivational interviewing techniques.   (5%)

Attempt to locate probation absconders. Conducts searches and may be required to make probation arrests. (5%)

Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal contact with others inside and/or outside the county for the purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, making reports, or soliciting cooperation.

Other Skills:

Minimum 21 years of age; U.S. citizen or have legal resident status; maintain a valid Arizona driver's license; must successfully pass a pre‑employment character and fitness background investigation, including but not limited to:  fingerprinting and criminal history records check, (MVD) driving records check, psychological evaluation, submit to and pass an illegal drug use screening, meet and be able to perform the required training and job duties with or without reasonable accommodation; may be required to submit to a polygraph.

Working skills in:

Personal interaction, counseling and interviewing; motivational interviewing techniques once trained; basic computer data‑entry.

Ability to:

Maintain confidentiality of non‑public information; critically analyze individuals and situations and make sound objective decisions; apply the principles and methods of probation services; practice technique of casework methods and report writing; established and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public; give, follow written and verbal instructions; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; communicate orally in a face‑to‑face setting and by telephone with public and employees; observe safety standards in the field and office; comprehend and make inferences from written material; operate a motor vehicle requiring a standard driver's license; produce written documents with clearly organized thoughts using proper sentence construction, punctuation and grammar.
