The Utah Department of Corrections is looking for a professional Information Specialist II to assist in implementing strategic communications, to inform and educate the public and internal stakeholders about the agency's programs, goals and objectives.

Principle Duties
The Information Specialist II will need to work with corrections staff and stakeholders, and to communicate complex issues to the general public in a clear and concise way using plain language.

  • Writing articles for internal and external websites
  • Taking photos of UCD facilities and events
  • Creating videos for YouTube or for use in social media
  • Updating website content
  • Coordinating the department's employee recognition program

The ideal Candidate
The model candidate for this position is someone who:

  • Has experience with media production, communication, and dissemination techniques, and methods including alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media
  • Understands the principles, theories, and practices of public relations
  • Can interact with news and other public media
  • Can use logic to analyze or identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts associated with information or data to draw conclusions
  • Has good writing, editing and proofreading skills
  • Can effectively use social media channels

  • Coordinates and/or acts as a liaison between agency or work unit and other agencies, work units, organizations, suppliers, etc.
  • Maintains and/or creates files or record keeping systems. Sorts, labels, files and retrieves documents, or other materials.

 Supplemental Information:
  • Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
