Job Description:

The Nebraska State Judicial Branch is currently accepting applications for the State Probation Administrator. This at-will position reports to the State Court Administrator, in consultation with the Chief Justice, and is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the administrative activities of the Nebraska State Probation System.  The Nebraska State Probation System’s statutory functions include:  juvenile intake, pre-dispositional/pre-sentence investigation, case management and supervision, delivery of services, and post release supervision of adults and juveniles as ordered by the trial courts.

Job duties:   Establishes and maintains policies, standards, and procedures for the probation system, with the concurrence of the Supreme Court. Appoints chief probation officers and assigns probation officers and employees as may be required to provide adequate probation services within each statewide probation district and each separate juvenile court. Represents the probation system at meetings with other judicial branch officers, at meetings with executive branch agencies, at legislative meetings, and with others, both in state and nationally, as may be appropriate. Maintains current knowledge of best practices for the purpose of evaluating and improving the effectiveness of the probation system. Coordinates all general functions of the probation system.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:   Extensive knowledge of the objectives and methods of evidence based practice probation administration.  Thorough understanding of methods of supervision, public relations, administrative analysis, budgetary and fiscal management, and employee relations. Knowledge of the Nebraska Judicial System and familiarity with the structure and organization of Nebraska state government.  Ability to apply professional knowledge, methods, and techniques to management problems.  Ability to implement management decisions effectively.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with personnel at all levels.  Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.

Salary: $125,000 - $140,000   Based on Qualifications

Other Qualifications:

Minimum:   Graduation from college or university with master’s degree or higher in court administration, public administration, criminal justice administration or a closely related field, with responsible supervisory and administrative experience that provides a thorough knowledge of modern probation administration.  Experience may be substituted for a master’s degree on a year for year basis.
