Staring Wage: $17 per hour. Wage increases every six months, with positive performance!

Bar-None, a residential treatment center for boys, is on the hunt for motivated and compassionate candidates for both full and part-time career opportunities! We offer flexible schedules and varied shifts that include day, evening and weekend hours. Imagine being a critical member of a skilled team of professionals that are truly passionate and effective in providing direct services to teens with psychiatric needs.

As a Residential Counselor, you will make a measurable difference in demonstrating and equipping the boys with life tools, skills…and hope. Think of this role as a skills coach and mentor, where your value and satisfaction come from working directly with the residents/clients to provide for their care, welfare, safety, and protection. Place your personal footprint on the hearts and minds of the residents, as they bravely embark on a personal journey to undergo treatment in accordance with the mission’s philosophy and program goals.

How You Will Spend Your Time:

• Participate as a critical member of an interdisciplinary team of professionals and provide trauma-informed care services to adolescents with mental health needs
• Interact directly with clients to provide for their care, welfare, safety, and protection
• Implement treatment plans and goals that are suitable to the age and functionality of the individual
• Document client’s progress throughout their stay

* Four (4) shifts per week: 10 pm- 8 am, including some weekends.
* Requires Well Being Checks performed every 15 minutes



Volunteers of America Minnesota is a nonprofit health and human services organization that annually serves more than 25,000 children, adolescents and their families, older adults, students, persons with disabilities and special needs, and adults completing incarceration. Since 1896, we have helped people gain self-reliance, dignity and hope.


Bar-None provides both open and secure living units for court-ordered and non-court-ordered juveniles experiencing mental health crisis and emotional behavior problems. It also provides adolescent with emergency and longer-term shelter care as well as a six-week evaluation program.

What We Need from You:
• High School Diploma/GED
• Motivation and ability to learn through our paid training program
• Valid Driver’s license with a good driving record
• All candidates must be 21 years of age or older
• Strong emotional intelligence and resiliency
• Compassion for individuals dealing with mental health issues
• Clear verbal and written communications skills
• Related experience with adolescents in residential/hospital setting preferred, but not mandatory
