Job Description:

THE POSITION

Hennepin County's Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR) is seeking students interested in gaining hands-on professional experience in the field of Juvenile Probation. This intern will assist the Restorative Services Unit in providing victims' rights, information, providing services to victims of crime, and derterming victims' out of pocket expenses.

Location and hours:
The duration of this internship is expected to be at least 250 hours and is to be completed sometime between September 2019 through April 2020.  Work schedule will be Monday through Friday during standard business hours (8:00 am to 4:30 pm). The internship is based out of the Health Services Building at 525 Portland Avenue South in downtown Minneapolis.

In this internship, you will:         

  • Observe and job shadow criminal justice systems and learn about the roles of the Restorative Justice Unit, probation, and other justice partners.
  • Contact victims and answer questions regarding their rights in the Court process.
  • Assist victims in completing necessary forms for restitution and obtain information regarding the emotional and monetary impact of the crime.
  • Verify loss information that may result in restitution.
  • Maintain confidentiality of victim, client information, and Court record; and maintain case notes as part of case management.
