Job Description:

THE POSITION

 

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) is currently seeking an IT Analyst II. The Sheriff's Office Communications division and Communications Technology unit provides operation support to the approximately 750 users within the Sheriff's Office and limited support to outside public safety agencies, responsible for the hardware infrastructure that runs the multiple critical applications relied upon by the agency.


Location and hours:
This position is located at 1245 Shenandoah Lane N, Plymouth, MN 55447. Work hours will be Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with the ability to be on call 24 hours a day. There is no public transportation to this location.

About the position type:
This position is eligible to receive an additional cash merit of up to $1,693.72 that can be earned annually based on performance.

In this position, you will:         

  • Provide maintenance, help desk and on-call support for desktop, data center hardware, periphery hardware, and complex systems as well as create, work, and close trouble tickets related to reported IT issues from users and systems.
  • Manage operations and support related IT projects involving research, business process analysis, specifications documentation, product/solution recommendations, implementation planning, and execution of implementation.
  • Plan, prioritize, and estimate cost and implementation plan for medium sized/scoped IT projects.
  • Serve as an IT liaison between agency users and the county's enterprise IT Help Desk, and support resources regarding issues, functionality, and problem resolution regarding county enterprise infrastructure and applications.
  • Formulate plans and proposals for infrastructure maintenance, replacements, and modification and create documentation and procedures regarding agency information systems infrastructure, systems, and projects within the agency, within the appropriate knowledge database application.
  • Provide mentoring sessions with the user community delivering needed training, information, and "best practices" regarding IT systems deployed within the agency.

Need to have:

  • One of the following:
    • Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, management information systems (MIS), information technology or an approved information technology field related to the position.
    • Associate's/vocational/technical degree or higher in a field listed above and two years or more of IT experience. 
    • Completion of five or more college/vocational technical technology courses and two years or more of IT experience. 
    • Completion of approved IT Hennepin County internship and two years or more of IT experience. 
    • Four years or more of IT experience. 
    • Note: Experience may be substituted for education on a year by year basis.
  • Certification or ability to become certified in ITIL Foundations within 6 months of hire.
  • The ability to be on call 24 hours a day.
  • The ability to climb in and out of vehicles including trucks without issue.

 
Nice to have:   

  • Experience with:
    • Microsoft SQL and high-availability database networks.
    • Command & control systems.
    • Maintaining NetMotion VPN systems.
    • Serial-Based communication protocols like RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485.
    • Writing JavaScript and DOS-based scripts.
    • Microsoft PowerShell.
    • Writing XML, HTML, and other website coding languages.
    • Supporting Android & iOS (Apple) devices, magnetic card readers, optical barcode scanners, and cellular telephone networks to include 3G, 4G & even 5G standards.
    • Supporting USB, Bluetooth computer peripheral devices, thermal-based Mobile printing technologies, and web-based applications.
  • Ability to:
    • Understand the ARMER Radio system.
    • Understand the 12 volt vehicle wiring.
