Job Description:

The Department of Correction's Medical team is recruiting a Physician Assistant (PA) to provide full time services in Gunnison Utah (CUCF).
We are looking for dedicated health professionals that are focused on wellness, prevention and putting the patient at the center. Our hard working team strives to deliver high quality and integrated care to our patients.
The PA, under the supervision of the Physician, is responsible for assisting in the delivery of health care and patient care management. Under a physician's supervision, the PA  is responsible for the delivery of a broad range of medical services, including: general medical care, assessments, evaluation, treatment and some minor surgery for patients in clinics, public health agencies, health centers or institutions in accordance with the Physician Assistant Medical Practice Act. The selected candidate may also direct/supervise medical staff.

Required Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate will have completed an approved physician assistant program from an accredited college/university. Certifications and licensure required below:
    • An active license to be a Physician Assistant in the State of Utah
    • No restrictions and no disciplinary actions on the license.
    • Licensure as a Controlled Substance Handler
    • Must submit to a pre-employment drug test.  
    • A knowledge of operating applicable specialized equipment
    • Refers inmate/patient to other available services to meet needs where appropriate.
    • Maintains and updates patient charts, records, and information. 
    • Communicates with others regarding inmate's/patient's status and progress to provide education, guidance, case management and follow-up.


The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of principles, theories, and practices of medicine the ability to work independently and an understanding of interactions and adverse reactions of drugs, medications and their dosage. Will be able to perform medical procedures, use logic to analyze or identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts associated with information or data to draw conclusions. Provide consultation and/or expert advice or testimony and deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism.
