Food Service Supervisor or Worker

Trained and certified to oversee all aspects of meal production for detainees on inmates in an institution. The supervisor purchases, stores, and prepares the food and is responsible for cleanliness of the kitchen, meeting local health department standards. The supervisor oversees the inmates who work in food preparation, including selection and health screenings. Food Service Workers operate under the direction of a Food Service Supervisor and work alongside inmates in meal preparation and clean-up. Some food service operations in jails and prisons also train inmates in culinary skills for jobs upon their release, as well as operation to prepare food for community organizations such as meals-on-wheels and homeless shelters.
