Special Education Teacher

Generally works in small classroom settings inside institutions, and/or instruct one-on-one working young detainees and inmates who have retained their special education eligibility to the maximum age of 22. Special education programs, mandated by Federal law, are designed to help inmates achieve to their capabilities. Teachers work closely with security and program staff to screen inmates for educational programs and assure that programming supports improved inmate behavior. Teachers may also work with community resources to enhance educational experiences and inmate re-integration.
